Project File

Work is being carried out at the top of Airedale Street down to our substation on Liverpool Street, which will reinforce the security and reliability of the electricity supply in the city.

Project timing: 21 April – 14 June, weather permitting.

What work is being carried out
In January we installed cable ducts under Symonds St, and down Airedale St to our Liverpool St substation. We are now installing cables in those ducts.

How the work is being carried out
The cables will be installed from a single trench on the eastern side of Symonds St in the bus lane.

Hours of work: Our crews will be working between 7am and 10pm, 7 days a week, to finish the project quickly.

We are mindful that people live in the area and we will be making every effort to minimise disruption, especially noise. Our work hours are inline with Council permitted work hours for the area.

Access to car parking and buildings
The work should not affect access to any driveways.  The worksite is confined to the one trench on the eastern side of Symonds St in the bus lane.

Minimising disruption
There will be some noise which is unavoidable. We understand that people live in the area and we will be making every effort to minimise all disruptions, especially noise.

The power supply
The power supply should not be affected in any way.

Traffic and pedestrian management
The traffic flow should not be too adversely affected by the work – the bus lane will only need to be closed immediately around our worksite. We have one other worksite located further down Symonds St.

Full traffic management plans have been developed and will be used throughout the duration of the project. We are liaising closely with the bus companies. Pedestrians will still be able to pass by the work site.

Thank you for your patience
We’d like to thank residents and businesses, in advance, for their patience and cooperation while work is underway. We will be making every effort to minimise disruption and complete the work as quickly as possible. The work is necessary to reinforce the security of power supply in the city.
