As the first major international city to welcome in the New Year, the iconic landmarks of Tāmaki Makaurau will light up in the countdown to 2023. Vector Lights on the Auckland Harbour Bridge will welcome us all to 2023 with a spectacular lighting show inspired by the ‘Auckland is Calling’ Tomokanga (entrance), reflecting the 19 iwi of Tāmaki Makaurau and the weaving together of people, land and sea. Rainbow storytelling comes to life in a dynamic new light show by contemporary installation artist Alex Watene (Ngāpuhi, Ngāti Whātua, Te Arawa a Tūhoe). ‘Re-indigenizing gender diversity here in Aotearoa New Zealand’ explores the impact of colonisation and raises awareness about Takatāpui identity and its acceptance in Aotearoa New Zealand.
