Electric vehicle chargers in full swing at Kumeu New World

Media Releases Network Updates
Vector has opened a new electric vehicle (EV) charging station with two rapid chargers at New World in Kumeu.

The station was opened on 27 June with fantastic local interest and curious visitors. It’s the first of four new Vector stations in Auckland over the next two months.

Diane Green, from Vector says there is growing demand for public EV chargers across Auckland and the Kumeu spot is already getting good use.

“We have had a lot of requests for our rapid chargers out west, so we’re very excited to partner with New World Kumeu to install this station. From the amount of interest shown at the launch, it has the potential to be one of our busiest locations,” says Vector’s Diane Green.

New World Kumeu Owner Wade Brown is looking forward to the chargers supporting more electric vehicles locally.

“We’re always looking at ways to reduce our carbon footprint, being an early adopter of a 100% electric delivery van is part of that. So we think it’s fantastic having public chargers that support EV users right here in Kumeu,” says Wade Brown.

Recent figures released by the Ministry of Transport show the continuing rise in EV registrations across the country with Auckland having the strongest concentration, and May being the highest month of registrations yet.

As well as installing new chargers in strategic locations, Vector has announced a two-way EV charger that will transform EVs into rechargeable power sources.

The new Auckland charging stations include:
  • 2 x Standard chargers at Auckland Hospital;
  • 2 x Rapid charger at New World Kumeu;
  • 2 x Rapid charger at Constellation Drive McDonalds; and
  • 1 x Rapid charger at BP Warkworth.
