WORKING IN NEW ZEALAND

New Zealand is a great place to work and live. We have three main cities: Auckland and Wellington in the North Island and Christchurch in the South, and a vast and unspoilt landscape with a lot on offer all year round.

It’s not surprising that our small population, currently around 4.5 million people, is growing fast. Learn more about New Zealand on the Visitor Information site.

A unique culture

The primary language spoken in New Zealand is English, and New Zealand Māori is our indigenous language. New Zealanders are often referred to as ‘Kiwis’ and we are very proud of our culture. We celebrate the Māori culture very openly and we enjoy an increasingly multicultural society, particularly in our larger cities. In fact, a study conducted in August 2014 found that New Zealand is one of the most diverse countries in the world, with 213 different ethnicities within our population of 4.5 million. The outdoors, the arts, sport and food are all close to our hearts and all of these benefit from our cultural melting pot. The unique geography of our small country means that we enjoy sub-tropical beaches and warm climates in the North, and incredible mountainous scenery with excellent terrain for snow sports in the South – and pretty much everything in between. In some parts of the country it’s possible to spend time on a mountain and on the beach in the same day!

Working in New Zealand

While we Kiwis are known for our laidback lifestyle and the value we place on work/life balance, we’re also known for our strong work ethic, which means that there are some fantastic career opportunities to be had.

If you’re planning on relocating to New Zealand and would like to secure a job, you’ll need to speak with Immigration New Zealand regarding the different visa options and how to apply.

Vector is an Accredited Employer

There is shortage of some skilled workers in New Zealand, which makes it a very attractive option for people working in certain industries in particular.

As an employer holding Accredited Employer Status, Vector is part of a small group of New Zealand companies who are able to recruit globally for employees to fill specialised roles which could take months to recruit locally, if at all. Our Accredited status also recognises us as being a responsible employer, with good policies, corporate standing and financial stability – all important for people who are considering joining our team from overseas.

We’re also huge advocates for diversity and inclusion at Vector. In 2015 we won the Supreme award at the Diversity Awards NZ, and in 2016 we were proud to be given the Rainbow Tick, a certification given to New Zealand companies who can demonstrate that they understand, value and welcome sexual and gender diversity. So, if you join us you can rest assured that we’ll encourage you to bring your whole self to work.
