We’re building on four key priorities:
- Maintaining reliability and improving resilience for our customers
- Building a future-ready network with investments that support population growth and new technologies
- Supporting decarbonisation and the electrification of the economy
- Making sure every dollar we spend produces the best possible value for our customers
Through delivering on these priorities, we’ll fulfil our role in enabling our customers, city and region to thrive.
The Auckland region is growing fast, and electricity demand continues to evolve. Big trends such as electrification and climate change mean we need to upgrade and expand the network to keep it strong and reliable.
At the same time, we want to use the network more efficiently and reduce peak demand so we can limit expensive upgrades. New technologies, customer choices, and market changes will shape when and how electricity is used in the future, so flexibility is critical.
Our approach is built on flexibility, innovation, and efficiency. We choose options that avoid unnecessary costs and keep us agile. These principles guide the investment forecasts in this AMP.

We expect to invest around $5.4 billion over the next decade to deliver for our customers. However, the timing and scale of investment remain uncertain. Key factors include:
- Changes to connection pricing and regulations
- Climate resilience needs (e.g. storms and vegetation risks)
- Environmental planning reforms
- Uptake of EVs, solar, and battery systems
- Businesses and households switching from gas to electricity
Where needed, we may adjust investment plans and seek approval for additional funding to maintain reliability and resilience.
Improving customer experience
Our customers are important to us and we’re putting them at the centre of everything we do by:
- Creating a dedicated customer function to improve service and communication
- Making it easier and faster to connect to the network
- Enhancing communication during outages and storms
- Working more closely with retailers and energy service providers
We’re also simplifying connection processes to improve speed of delivery and provide better support for our customers that are adopting EVs, solar, and other technologies.
Smarter, more innovative network
We’re continuing to invest in tools and partnerships that improve how we run the network. This includes:
- AI-powered inspections using drones and advanced analytics
- Faster, more accurate network planning tools
- Exploring non-traditional solutions to reduce costs and improve outcomes
We’re also preparing for increased solar uptake and new voltage standards, ensuring customers can benefit while maintaining network stability.
Looking ahead
AMP26 underscores our focus on building a smarter, more flexible electricity network for Auckland. While some uncertainty remains, we’re committed to adapting, innovating, and investing wisely so we can deliver reliable, affordable energy for the region’s future.
