Why do you have to do this work during the summer, when it’s a busy season with families on holiday and tourists?
As part of resource consent regulations, we’re only able to carry out this type of work within a limited timeframe.
Under the Resource Management Act, the new National Policy Statement on Indigenous Biodiversity means we have a limited timeframe to cut back any trees, to ensure we preserve and protect the habitats of native animals such as geckos.
Weather conditions, challenges across the Auckland region with vegetation and the availability of specialist crews also impact timing.
How will the tree-trimming work specifically affect my area?
Tree-trimming and maintenance work is being carried out between Orapiu and Cowes Bay. The specific days and time you will be affected depend on which area your household or business is connected to.
We will provide further details in advance of your power outage which will give you more information about how you will be affected (for example, if there is any noise to expect, the exact time we need to switch your power off and whether we can provide you with generation).
Could you provide more details about the support offered during power outages, such as the reliability of the provided generation and what it covers during the outage?
Crews have already started work in the area to ensure generation to support customers is available wherever possible. This includes both network-level generation (large generators that connect directly into our network at key locations) and premise-level generation (small portable generators that power home appliances) for some households.
Portable generators for household appliances unfortunately aren’t possible for every household due to the location of the work, access and technical requirements.
Depending on the location of your area and access points for generation, we will notify you in advance about how we might be able to help
What is the process for notifying residents about planned outages, and what information will be provided in advance?
As part of our standard process, customers impacted by planned outages receive information including the date, time, and cause, at least 10 days in advance.
Could you offer a more specific timeline for the tree-trimming work, especially if there are certain periods with more frequent or prolonged outages?
Further outages happening in February, March, and April are currently being scheduled.
Those impacted by multiple or prolonged outages will receive another personal, separate email from us.
